How to Set Up a Home Network for Faster Streaming

Buffering during a movie is almost always a network layout problem rather than an internet speed problem.

Placement Matters More Than Speed

Put the router in a central, open location, elevated off the floor, away from metal objects and thick walls that block signal. A router tucked in a closet in the corner of the house will underperform even an expensive plan.

Wire What You Can, Prioritize What You Can’t

Connect streaming devices and smart TVs to ethernet where possible, since wired connections are far more stable than Wi-Fi. For everything else, enable Quality of Service settings in the router admin panel to prioritize streaming traffic over background downloads.

These changes typically make a bigger difference than upgrading your internet plan alone.
