Public Wi-Fi at cafes and airports is convenient, but it is also one of the easier places for data to be intercepted if you are not careful.

Basic Precautions
Avoid logging into banking or entering sensitive information while connected to public Wi-Fi, and confirm you are joining the legitimate network name rather than a similarly named fake one set up nearby. Turning off file sharing and AirDrop while on public networks also reduces exposure.

Add a Layer of Protection
A reputable VPN encrypts your traffic on public networks, making it far harder for anyone else on that network to intercept what you are sending. Many phones also now include a built-in private relay or similar feature that offers partial protection automatically.
Saving sensitive tasks for a trusted network, or using a VPN when that is not possible, closes most of the real risk.
