A sluggish PC does not always mean it is time to buy a new one. Most slowdowns come from years of accumulated startup programs, temporary files, and background processes quietly eating up memory and CPU cycles.

Start With What Loads at Boot
Open Task Manager, go to the Startup tab, and disable anything you do not use daily. Cloud sync tools, chat apps, and update checkers are common offenders that add thirty seconds or more to every boot.

Clean Up Storage and Background Tasks
Run Disk Cleanup to clear temporary files, uninstall programs you no longer use, and check Task Manager’s processes tab for anything using unusually high memory. A nearly full hard drive also slows Windows down, so aim to keep at least fifteen percent free space.
None of this requires technical expertise, just ten minutes and a willingness to be a little ruthless about what actually needs to run in the background.
