Laptop batteries degrade naturally over time, but daily habits play a much bigger role in how long a charge lasts than most people realize.

Adjust Power and Display Settings
Lower screen brightness, shorten the sleep timer, and switch to a battery saver power plan when unplugged. The display is typically the single largest power draw on a laptop, so even a modest brightness reduction adds meaningful hours.

Manage Background Activity
Close browser tabs and apps you are not using, since each one continues consuming CPU and network resources in the background. Disabling Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not needed, and unplugging unused USB accessories, also reduces drain.
For long-term battery health, avoid keeping a laptop constantly plugged in at 100 percent, and try to let it discharge to around 20 percent occasionally.
